CONTRIBUTION: Australia: The New Lebanese Hotspot?

Published on: April 5, 2013

Over the past few years, many young Lebanese Australians have become well
known within the International Lebanese community. People have shined in
different areas ranging from modeling and beauty pageants, to singing, stand-up
comedy, politics & journalism, to filmmaking and even TV-Presenting.
Therefore, it may be of interest to imagine the possibility of this becoming a
trend, recognized and portrayed more thoroughly through the media.

This is an interesting thought, as it gives young Lebanese Australians a
chance to establish and maintain a connection with their cultural
background, and also provides an opportunity for the Lebanese Diaspora all
over the world to connect, creating a global community.

Great article Nate, its about time the media focus shifted from second generation Lebanese Australians failing to assimilate to the positive contributions being made.

Thanks so much guys. I agree Alison, it’s really important that people begin to realize that there is more out there than what is portrayed through the media.

      Thanks Hannah!

What type of primary info are you after? Are there any specific questions you want answered?

        Thanks Nathan,

Yes i would like to get any opinions from people of what they believe has been contributed to Australian communities from the Lebanese in Australia.
Do people think that Lebanese poeple have been judged or labeled in Australia?. And if possible categorial people people could state their opinion for example they contributed to the food and in what ways, to the culture, to the fashion, to employement. etc.
        Thankyou,
Really look forward for any replies.

Hey Nathan i realised no body really was interested in my question :( it is very critical for me to get opinions of the public about this issue so that i could include it as my primary research.

          Sorry Hannah,

I’ve been meaning to get back to you… There are so many things I could tell you about the Lebanese community in Australia… Firstly, it is a very dynamic community which contains all aspects ranging from religion, entertainment, festivals etc. I won’t be able to tell you everything in this comment but I will give you a few examples you could use.

My main interest lies in Entertainment & Media so I’ll focus on that. There are many bands and companies which have specialised in establishing a Lebanese Entertainment industry in Australia. To be honest there are many, but for the sake of your research look up AMW promotions, Double 8 productions and Arabic Australia – You can find their pages on Facebook.

You’d also want to look up the Lebanese Film Festival in Australia (they also have a Facebook page), as they have been quite successful in establishing a Lebanese Australian film culture, allowing filmmakers from all over the world to showcase their films in several venues across Sydney.

Hope this helped, if you need any more information please let me know.

          • Hana says:

Thankyou very much Nathan, i will check them out and get in contact hopefully. :) If you are familiar with people who specialise in fields other than entertainment that i could contact that woul be very helpful, if not thats okay i’m glad i received that information from you :)
